Aguamarina Building/Area is fantastic for Families.
A little bit about us:
Stayed in the Aguamarina building with 2 adults, a 4 yr old and 14 yr old. Granparents and oldest child stayed in the Jade area that we didn't have access to and doesn't allow children under 8 to stay there.
This is our second trip to Club Med Cancun and have stayed at other Club Med's multiple times in Punta Cana and Ixtapa. All the other trips we've stayed in the Exclusive Collection Areas like Tiara and Jade. This was our first trip not staying in one of those areas so it was different but still a good experience.
Rooms-
Set up great for families. First bedroom when walking in has 2 single beds and a bathroom with a tub shower and sink, no toilet in the bedroom bathroom. There is a bathroom with a toilet and sink in the hall outside of the 'kids' bedroom. Walking through there's a door into the master suite that can be closed for privacy. 2 Closets outside the master bath that has a 2 sinks, a toilet and a shower. The toilet and shower doors are glass and see through which was a bit odd. in total, 3 Bathrooms with 2 toilets, 1 tub shower and 1 stand up shower. (See my photos) If you have anyone that tends to stink up the bathroom there are bathrooms right by the pool and Taco Arte. ; )
Master bedroom has a large bed and a seating area that can be used as a bed, there's a curtain that can be pulled partway across the room for privacy.
Play Areas/Beach/Pool-
Aguamarina has it's own pool and bar area, no need to hike over to the main area. Bar also serves snacks throughout the day, crackers, candy, fruit, and sandwich's. Crepes are served daily at 4:00. Kids Club is right there making drop off and pick up really convenient. Waterpark, Playground and Pickle Ball courts are all with in feet of Aguamarina. They also have an excursion desk and dive desk all right there too.
There's a small beach with palapa's right at Taco Arte restaurant that was great for the 4 year old. Beach is very flat and the water is perfectly calm with no waves and little seaweed. It's very shallow so it was great for her to wade into the water looking at the little fish. It has a set of rocks that go out into the water that made for great exploring for snails and hermit crabs in the rocks. There is no lifeguard and we felt very comfortable allowing her to play in the very shallow water while we sat close by. They offer some beach service for drinks but Taco Arte bar is right there as well as bathrooms. There NO beach area in front of most of the Aguamarina building even though there are palapas and beach chairs, it's all rocks and when we were there a TON of seaweed on the shore. However, there is a little bit of a beach area toward the far end of the area (away from Taco Arte) that didn't have a lot of seaweed and a small area with some sand.
Waterpark is great with an area for the little ones (splash park), one with a little bigger slides but only knee high water, and larger slides for the bigger kids/adults that has height restrictions. Overall a really nice add on by Club Med especially being right at the Aguamarina buildings.
Food-
Taco Arte is open for breakfast and lunch buffet style. Serving a variety of Mexican dishes as well as the basics you'd get in the US or Europe. Plenty of burgers, hot dogs, pizza, fries and chicken tenders. Breakfast you can get made to order eggs and at lunch they have made to order tacos and quesadillas. We dined at Taco Arte everyday for breakfast and lunch since it's so close to Aguamarina Buildings. Dinner at Taco Arte is Mexican and reservation only. It's served family style. (see photos for menu) And the best part about Taco Arte is Jaeger the hawk. Yes they have a guy with an actual hawk that keeps the other birds from flying into the restaurant. Jaeger and his handler were there most days and super friendly letting the kids pet his tail. (see photo)
Estancia Steakhouse, reservation only and not great quality of cuts of meat. If you're used to good quality meat don't waste your time eating here, you'll be disappointed.
The Hacienda (Main Buffet)- We had dinner here most nights and the food quality isn't bad but not great. Most of all the seating is indoors in rooms off of the main serving area. Service for beer/wine is pretty slow, very typical at resorts so be patient or grab a drink at the bar to take to dinner. We had a group of 8 traveling with us and they were always very quick to get our large group a table.
Check in was quick and easy with a dedicated concierge desk right in the Aguamarina building by the pool, no need to go to main desk/lobby to check in and out. Check out was not great. Normally we receive a not on when we'll be picked up for our departure but nothing was left in our room. Our flight was at 11 and our bags were supposed to picked up outside of our room at 8:00am with the buss picking us up at 8:15am. They were about 20 minutes late which delayed our departure to the airport. Airport was very crowded and we got through check in and security with about 30 minutes to spare prior to boarding, a little close for our comfort.
My Club Med App- This was relatively new to us and pretty easy to use. You can make your dinner reservations one day prior at Taco Arte and Estancia. Any room requests can also be made via the app so no need to call the desk for requests, however if it is later in the night I'd suggest calling to make sure your needs are addressed quickly and not the next day. You won't have access to it until you arrive and check in. Use the exact name with middle name and file number to log into the app.
Teen Club-
First time for our teenager took part in the activities, she loved it! She ended up making some really good 'vacation friends' and took part in some of the activities but often went off on her own with her new friends. We had frequent check-ins with her and at night I hung out at bar that was close to wear she was in case anything came up.
Every night has a theme night and I had a hard time trying to find what they were before our visits so here they are. It's optional but it's fun to do.
Theme Night Dress:
Sunday- Black and Colors
Monday- Mexican Colors
Tuesday- 45 Day
Wednesday- Elegant
Thursday- All White
Friday- All Black
Saturday- White and Blue
Overall a really nice trip and we would come back again if Punta Cana and Ixtapa weren't available.
