Visit the UNESCO-listed medina
To begin your travel to Marrakech in April, nothing beats exploring the medina, the old town! Start your week of discovery in Morocco at Jemaa El-Fna Square, the vibrant heart that concentrates the city's bustling market activities. From dawn until late evening, you'll encounter street vendors, fortune tellers, and even snake charmers. Under the warm Moroccan sun, wander through the winding alleys of the medina during a peaceful walking tour. Take time to savor the Moroccan tea offered in every shop.
It is also in the medina that you can admire the famous riads, the traditional Moroccan houses built around an atrium. Designed to channel both sunlight and rain, the riad helps cool the adjacent rooms naturally. Continue your stay by exploring the foot of the famous Koutoubia Mosque, easily recognizable by its 70-meter tall minaret. Although you cannot enter, it can be discovered with a guide who will share its fascinating history.
Did you know?
The medina is the original Marrakech! Indeed, it was built in the late 11th century and was surrounded by ramparts. Even today, the medina covers an area of 590 hectares and has 18 kilometers of medieval walls. These physically separate it from the new town, known as Guéliz, which was constructed during the French Protectorate in the 19th century.
